“An Apology” -Digital Portrait Painting by Sam Spratt
In the midst of my light-hearted illustrations like the Tumblr Beast or Dwight Schrute, I am dropping a bit of a heavy bomb with this latest illustration, but it’s something close to home.
I’ve been called a sexist before. More than once even. I’m not alone in my previous expectations of women. The whole world seems to have this same problem.
The problem of course being that we want our women to—essentially be—spot-clean, pure, stainless, virgin…
Whores.
Women are meant to be sex symbols but at every turn, the demand for what that requires is met with societal consequence—contradictory to the initial expectation. Every issue from diet to makeup, attire to loyalty, and chastity to sex—the world asks of women to be two things at once that cannot exist together. This forces extremism to both right and left and ultimately leaves masses of broken women who spend their lives trying to fit the arbitrary, invisible, and impossible cookie-cutter standard placed before them.
This illustration was made to highlight the aftermath of these demands, serve as a microscopic apology, and at the very least, an acknowledgment that this is happening and I’ve regrettably been a part of it.
If you like this painting, do follow me on tumblr (I follow back almost every person that follows me for the sake of not missing out on potential inspiration), or for the latest, I run a mean facebook artist’s page and a musing-filled twitter.

Re-reblogging this just to iterate how much I adore her body.
(wah wah wah every body is beautiful. Whatever. I hate mine and I want hers. Not hating on anyone but myself here.)
